Welcome to A Poet’s Work

A Poet’s Work is the only newsletter about ways to be a poet.

Why I started this newsletter:

I started this newsletter because I needed it but couldn’t find it anywhere. I’ve always wanted to be a poet but I didn’t know how other poets were making it work for them. I noticed a lot of taboos around poetry and work too. People seem to think poetry and work don’t belong together, that poetry exists in a separate sphere of mystical dandelion rainbow clouds and work is, well, work. I disagree. This newsletter is a joyful, practical, no-bullshit demystification of ways to be a poet in 2024 and how you can be one too. There's no one way to be a poet but how can we each find ours unless we learn from each other?

What you’ll get:

Practical advice and ideas on ways to be a better poet.

On ways to develop your craft, find time to write, write whilst living with mental or physical illness and disability, make money from poetry, connect with audiences, balance a creative life with a 9 - 5, read well, stay true to your creative integrity, and more.

Interviews with some of the most exciting poets working today about their ways of being poets, and ideas and provocations for your writing practice from me.

A Poet’s Work will arrive every two weeks at 9 a.m. on Sundays, UK time.

How you can support A Poet’s Work:

  1. Recommend the newsletter to other poets and writers. This is my number one ask if you enjoyed the newsletter and found it useful. Reaching people who care about making great poems is this newsletter’s raison d'être.

  2. Buy my book. In 2019 I published my debut poetry pamphlet with Wordsmith HQ, an independent press. You can buy your copy here and I will sign it for you and post it to you.

Who am I?

How rude of me not to introduce myself sooner. I’m Rachel Lewis, a poet and creative facilitator based in London. I write about everyday joy, hidden pain and love beyond romance. And poetry and work, obviously.
