Hello and welcome! If you’ve followed A Poet’s Work all the way here from Mailchimp to Substack, you are a legend and I love you.
There has been radio silence from A Poet’s Work since February. This is because I’ve been working on neither my own poetry, nor A Poet’s Work, but a secret third thing. But I’ve missed you! I’ve missed chatting to a brilliant poet every month or so, and getting the odd email back from happy subscribers with comments, questions and suggestions. I’m delighted to be back.
The secret third thing is a new writing project. I got a Developing Your Creative Practice grant from Arts Council England in the spring to expand into creative non-fiction. Part of the grant process required me to reflect on my creative work and how I could make it more sustainable. That’s led to the rejig of this newsletter into a more regular rhythm on a better platform.
A Poet’s Work will still be the only newsletter focused on ways to be a poet and how to make it work for you. I’ll still be sharing interviews with exciting poets from all walks of life. You will also get emails from me summarising advice or guidance from places I’ve found useful, and offering learning from my own experiences. These will arrive fortnightly at 9 a.m. on Sundays so you can take ideas and provocations from them through into your upcoming week.
Do drop me an email or leave a comment if you’ve enjoyed anything in particular, if you hated it and want to let me know why, or if there are topics you’re particularly curious to cover. I’ll always get back to you!
Until next time, Rachel x
P.S. If you’re wondering why Substack, four main reasons:
MAILCHIMP ATE MY SUBSCRIBERS - I found about a hundred of you that had never got an email because of a bug in Mailchimp! Heartbreaking. Never again.
Visibility of the back catalogue - unlike Mailchimp or my slightly shoddy personal website, Substack makes the beautiful back catalogue of A Poet’s Work visible for anyone who comes across the newsletter.
Comments - subscribers can leave comments on posts (which you’ll receive as emails) and I and other subscribers can read and respond to them. I’m keen to make A Poet’s Work useful and nourishing to you so this should help with getting feedback and sharing people’s ideas.
Discoverability - Substack has features that mean people interested in poetry and work might find the newsletter by searching for those topics, which I would love. If you’ve found us this way, a very warm welcome to you!
For now, I’m keeping all of A Poet’s Work free to all subscribers. I might add paid content in the future, we’ll see how we go.
Came across this page by chance, Rachel as a fellow creative (including Poetry). Yeah, I was using Mailchimp too. I've had a similar problem, think I prefer it on here. Look forward to reading more of your posts.
